Me and my hare-brained schemes. Starting tomorrow, I’m going on the Drinking Man’s Diet so that I can write about it –but maybe also lose some weight. First lesson: “drinking” doesn’t really include beer, since the whole thing’s a low-carb scheme. Wish me luck.

I think the (pathetic) answer is that all those cool-but-uncomfortable chairs and couches are all literally in reach — they’re there on the floor, waiting for irresponsible buyers.

Hospital Grub Not Just for Insane Cheapskates Any More

Back at my most recent employer, there was one story, written back in the dark ages, that was mocked by everyone. It was the one about how you should look for hospitals when you’re hungry — not just when you’ve been hit by a truck. They’re a great place for lunch, and so affordable! Try it the next time you’re on vacation and willing to drag your family somewhere random and possibly infectious.

Of course, the fact that everyone mocked this story should have been a sign that there was something to it: I bring you news from yesterday: it turns out that “hospital food has, seemingly, gotten pretty good” — it may even be the “best restaurant in your town.”
